SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME:

I upgraded from Win ME to windows 2000 professional on my
home PC (Configuration: Dell's P-3/866 mHZ, 128 mb RAM).
I am not happy with the operating system as it does not
allow my kids to play their favoirite CD's and also gives
me several po-up security windows. I know Win 2000 Prof
is far stable than XP but I need to switch over to XP-Home.

Now I wish to have Windows XP home as the operating system
and I am unable to install since Windows 2000 Professional
is better OS than XP home. I need help and possibly step
by step instructions. I have done lot research on the
internet but cannot get to the right information.

Would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks very much

Only Windows XP Professional can upgrade over Windows 2000.
If you wish to install XP Home Edition, then you'll have to perform
a "clean install".

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After installing Windows XP, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

7. It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except for you mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.
After XP is installed, visit the support website of the manufacturer
of each hardware device to obtain the latest drivers or software
designed to work with Windows XP.

'Better than' confused me. 2000 Pro is not better than, just different. Your
problem is XP home will not upgrade Win 2000. If you need all your data,
etc, you will have to upgrade with XP Pro. If you must stick with XP Home
which must be installed, make sure you backup all your data and e-mail
before doing so.
