Could someone help me. I used wipedisk to clear a hard
drive and I am trying to install windows 2000. I am
getting the following error message (blue screen):

Setup was unable to format the partition the disk may be
damaged.

Make sure the drive is switched on and properly connected
to the computer. If the disk is a SCSI make sure your SCSI
devices are properly terminated. Consult your computer
manual or SCSI adapter documentation for more information.
(Unfortunately, I don't have either of those)

Could someone tell me what I should do? Thank you so much

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the great information. I followed them,
however, when I booted from setup Disc #1, I received the
following error message:

\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. Error code 7

Any suggestions as to what now?

Thanks

Best to boot the CD-Rom if possible. Is this a multi-processor install? If
not, then setup is incorrectly identifying the number of processors. You may
need a bios flash upgrade.

Wait, are you saying you have a SCSI adapter but you don't
have the documentation or the computer manual, or are you
saying you don't have a SCSI device.

Because if you have a SCSI device you have to do that Cntl
A thing at the beginning and set up your SCSI device
controller or it won't recognize the drive. Also, if you
have a newer hard drive than the operating system, you may
need to f6 during setup and install the hard drive
controller for it.

Just in case what the other guy said didn't do the trick
for you, there are some more options. Troubleshooting over
the internet is hard.
