Help with installing a wireless mouse

I just obtained a Targus wirless mouse for my laptop. It comes with no
special driver(s), as the manual says that it works with the drivers that
come with XP. When I try to "add new hardware", and get to the part where the
driver is being installed/copied, I immediately get an error message saying
Invalid Data. The device manager confirms with a code 28 that the driver is
not installed.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? Do you know the particular file(s)
that may be corrupted so I can get a fresh copy?

Thanks,
Les

There should be no need to use the Add New Hardware wizard. The process
should start automatically when you plug the receiver into a USB port.

It did that when I first plugged in the receiver, but the same problem
occurred: when I got to the part where the driver is being installed/copied,
I immediately got an error message saying Invalid Data.

It took me a couple of days to get back to this. But, when I tried what you
said, I couldn't find any "deviceDescr" which said anything about mouse or
wireless mouse.

Any other suggestions?
