Susie

Please could someone help me. I am running XP Pro (sp1 & sp2). I cannot
run my Help and Support, nor can I from Start, Run - get regedit or cmd to
start up.

I have done extensive searches on google, followed all advice, downloaded
and run just about every registery fixer, read Kellys Korner about 100
times, tried to install from my CD, tried to reinstall pchealth.inf (but all
I get is a message saying "C\windows\system32\Cmd.com. The NTVDM CPU has
encountered an illegal instruction. CS:0000 IP:0077 OP:f0 37 05 10 02 Choose
close to terminate the application.)

I have looked in the services and help and support is there but stopped,
when I try and run it, it says that the helpctr.exe is not available.

I have done a search on my computer for this file, but it is not there and
is not in the pchealt/helpctr/biniaries folder either.

Any help to resolve this issue would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

What happens when you run the system in Safe Mode?

If you installed any software or drivers immediately prior to that
happening, try uninstalling it or using the Roll back Driver feature for the
device under Drivers in the Device Manager.

It looks as if some badly written software is responsible.

Try entering msconfig in the Start => Run box and disable the start-up
programs, reboot and see if the problem is fixed.

Have you tried using System Restore to restore a restore point that predates
the problem?

There is no such thing as "cmd.com". It's cmd.exe (and command.com
for the legacy 16-bit command processor). Perhaps you had some
malware slipping in a fake command processor. Rename it to cmd.bad
and see what happens.
