I need to format my HD and reinstall ME on my laptop (I cannot find my XP
disc - the truth there), but everything I try will not let me format.

I tried a windows boot disk, but it will not read it at startup. A DOS
start up disk loads, but has no format executable, and if I manually add it
to the disk, it gives me an error message that it is the wrong version of
DOS??

I cannot load the recovery console since I cannot locate my disk.

WHAT CAN I DO! I cannot use the laptop until I can load either 98 or ME on
it. Please help!

How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard
Disk
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;255867

1. Delete the Windows XP partition.
2. Create a new partition.
3. Format the new partition.
4. Install your desired Operating System.

I tried fdisk, but since the boot disk will not read, I cannot use that
either. I am pretty good with computers, but this one has me completely
stumped.

Any other thoughts?

use fdisk and delete it first, then use fdisk and make a new partition. Then
format and install ME.
