hELP WITH FORMAT

Is this during setup? you have a choice of FAT32 or NTFS. Use ntfs is you
want to assign permissions to file and generally have a more securable
system.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

| Help??? I need to know how to format my hard drive on win
| 2000 pro.

You can do most partition creation/deletion/formatting operations using
Disk Manager within W2k, EXCEPT for the partition containing W2k itself
(usually C:).

If you're trying to reformat THAT partition for some reason (which
obliterates the installed W2k), then Richard and Dave have answered your
question in this thread.

You can do many other partition operations (like enlarging, shrinking,
and rearranging) using a reliable, nondestructive 3rd party utility like
powerquest.com's PartitionMagic. Such utilities will work on all
partitions including the system/boot partition.
