I am working on a powerpoint presentation and I am not finished yet it is saying file size is 6Gig Is there a way to cleanup and reduce the size of the file?

Hey Steve R.....

Are you up for adding a page to the faq (or an addition the the 'Why are my
files so big' page)

Kind of a league table of the reported biggest powerpoint files!

I think 6 gig could quite well top the league

Cheers

A guy dropped in a week or so back with a two-gigger, but this is 3x that
one. Personally, I'd like to have the machine that can run a pres that big.

hb---what did you put into that file? There may be ways to make the added
stuff smaller.

The latest versions of PowerPoint include an image compression utility
-- look on the image tool bar -- which should help. Third-party
vendors, such as Impact Labs, offer compression software specifically
for PowerPoint -- check out www.impactlabs.com/pointless. These
applications are most effective on files with embedded objects and
uncompressed still images. If you file includes audio and video
content that has been saved in an uncompressed state, you should
remove and compress that content and then rebuild your PPT file using
the compressed audio / video.

It would only encourage silly, macho "My PPT-ness is bigger than yours"
behavior.

Yeah...try

Fiat > Opel > Volkswagen

Failing that try the slide masters
Volvo > Seat > Smart

[CRITICAL UPDATE - If you are using Office 2003, you should install this
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Currently, PowerPoint 2002 and PowerPoint 2003 provide an image
optimization feature (choose "Compress Picture" from the Picture toolbar),
but other kinds of optimizations (including lossy conversion of OLE
objects, removal of hidden objects, etc.) are not provided through it's
user interface (and even determining which content might be a candidate for
optimization can be difficult).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide better content management tools for finding, changing, replacing,
deleting, OPTIMIZING, etc. linked, embedded, and native content (without
have to resort to VBA or 3rd party add-ins), don't forget to send your
feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
