Hi,

I was helping my dad in law reformat/reinstall xp home
onto his computer. during setup I never did see an
option to format and start from scratch, so we did a new
OS install over the old one. During a restart the
computer hung, with an error disk reading. Now it won't
boot up..........I'm dead. Hard to believe I've harmed
the hard drive.........

All I want to do is run fdisk and format on his hard
drive; can I make an emergency boot disk to do this?
From the xp cd? I can't find the format.com file
anywhere on my xp machine......... I feel terrible that
I've disabled his PC; your help would be appreciated.

When u start a windows xp install, theres a point where it
asks u to select and drive to install to. on that screen
there is also the option to delete the partition. once u
delete the partition there is an option to format teh drive
in either NTFS or FAT32.

I'm sorry if this is double i wasn't sure i sent it as a
reply or a new post.

When u start the windows xp install, there comes a point
where it asks u to select the drive to install to. if u
read carefully it also give u the option to delete the
drive. Once u delete the drive it will give u the option to
format in either NTFS or fat 32. hopefully that helps.
