I have seen several mesages on this topic, but none quite like mine. I have
an HP desktop with an HP 640b writer. Writer has started working sometmes
and not others for the same task. For example, copying photos to a CD may go
fine on the first copy and be met with a "there is no blank CD in the drive"
message for the second copy. Also, the blank CD may spin forever when first
inserted in nthe drive. The only way to stop it is to eject. It does not do
this every time. I am running XP Media 2005 and have various programs for
different burning purposes. Sonic was preinstalled (along with some other
weak programs). I have added Photoshop for pictures/video an Musicmatch for
music. Also have iPOD software installed which I have not used yet. Simple
copy/paste or drag and drop for a photo file for instance has the same
intermittant success - works sometimes, "no blank disk in the drive" other
times. I have run the troubleshooter which indicates the drive is working
properly.
Any suggestions on software conflicts or hardware issues that could be
causing this and the fix would be greatly appreciated. I don't think the
drive has gone bad.
