I would like to design a somewhat complex animation in PP03. I could do
this if the animation would stay fixed in place at the end as opposed to
reinitializing itself at the end of the time sequence. I plan on driving
the animation with mouse clicks.

1. How can PP be configured to leave the objects in their existing position
at the end of the animation?
2. How can I move the objects to their next position with a mouse click?

As usual online and web help were not very helpful.

TIA,

Pete

PPT does usually do this. What kind of animation settings have you
applied?
2. How can I move the objects to their next position with a mouse click?

Use motion paths.

If you want to give some specifics, we can probably give you specific
suggestions.

If I can figure out how to make a square autoshape move from the left part
of the slide (position a) to the center (position b) on mouse click one.
Then move from the center position b to the bottom (position c) on mouse
click 2. I think I can do everything that I wish to in the animations.

The other trick that would be helpful, is if I can group objects on the
first mouse click and move several from position a to b on the slide; and
then ungroup and move some of the objects from position b to position c.

I know this sounds simple and should be in powerpoint. Where I am
frustrated is that at the end of the first move or mouse click all the
objects move back to the initial positions, so I can't specify the b to c
move with the motion paths; because all the objects are moved back to
position a after mouse click 1.

TIA,

Pete

Peter,
Bring up the effect options on your motion path animation. Do you have
"Auto-Reverse" checked? If so, uncheck it and see if that does what you
need.

I'm using PP03. I do not see an effects option. I see add an effect, but
there is no Auto-Reverse checkbox.

I also see change effects, but again no Auto-Reverse. I am using the draw
custom path -> line animation.

Can you be a bit more specific?

Thanks,

Pete

Pete,
Select the path animation. Right click the animation or use the drop down
arrow on the animation itself. You should see Effect Options as one of the
choices. Bringing that up should show the Auto-reverse check box.
Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks, Kathryn.

I finally found the Effect Option and the Auto-Reverse checkbox was
unchecked. Also, the Rewind When Done Playing is unchecked, which has me a
bit puzzled because it sure looks like that it is rewinding when done
playing.

So we are on the same page. If you create a square on a slide and use
custom animation->custom path->line and move the square from the left to the
right part of the slide. I need to figure out how to keep the square at the
right side of the slide when the animation is finished.

I really appreciate your help and patience.

Pete

Okay.... I can only see one other reason that this would happen. That is if
the path has been reversed. Start point is the green arrow, end point is the
red arrow. If the two green arrows aren't together, you will get this
effect.
