Hi all...

Some basic questions I hope someone can help me with!

I have just purchased a Canon MV530i. If I transfer video from the camcorder
to the PC would I be correct to assume it was in "DV" format?

When transferring video from the camcorder to the PC what quantity of disk
space is required, is there a typical 10 mins of video =1Gb disk space?

Assuming this is correct then if I use MM2 does this application supports
the input of video in the "DV" format?

If I then want to burn to DVD what format would you convert the edited video
to before burning?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Paul

Hello there,

Yes.

space is required, is there a typical 10 mins of video =1Gb disk space?

If the video was just a black image with no change at all, the file will be
very small. Normal usage often causes a file in the 13 - 16GB range. Iam
presently working on a 1.5hr DV video and that is just under 27GB (which is a
lot larger than expected)
Assuming this is correct then if I use MM2 does this application supports
the input of video in the "DV" format?

Answer to first question requires that the answer here must be Yes. (If I
understand what you are asking that is)
If I then want to burn to DVD what format would you convert the edited video
to before burning?

You create a DV-AVI file from Movie Maker and import that into your DVD
authoring package I did not like the Nero software that came with my DVD burner
so I tried a few and settled on Dazzle DVD Complete....quite smokey stuff

Just to add to John's comments --

Many DV camera's offer both a USB and IEEE1394/firewire connection for
ripping your content from the device; In order to capture DV-AVI in Movie
Maker from your DV camera, you'll need to use the IEEE/firewire connection.

Thanks guys,

Can I just ask is DV-AVI as it comes from the camera via the firewire or is
this the output format of MM2, I'm trying to understand if MM2 applies
compression to the original source video?

Hello there,

Yes DV-AVI is how it will come out of your camera.....you can use a wide range
of programs to capture it, if MM works OK for you then let it do the
capture....it does a good job.
