Help with cable internet...

I'm not sure if this is in the right area because I'm not sure it is a
problem with IE.

I have a computer running XP SP2, IE6, and a Linksys router. I have had my
cable internet service for a few months now and it had worked flawlessly. A
couple of days ago, I noticed the internet wasn't working, although the modem
showed that it was connected (lights). So to solve this problem I powered
down the computer, unplugged the modem for about 60 secs., plugged it back
in, let it connect, then rebooted. This worked the first time.

Now, it is so bad that I can't connect through the router at all, and it
takes several times of doing the above procedure. And to make it worse,
after about 5 minutes or so, the connection is lost.

I know it is not the service or the equipment because I have another
computer that accesses just fine when connected.

What can I do to fix the problem?

First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

Thanks for the info. I have both Ad-aware and spybot and have used them. I
will try some of the suggestions.

I have now tried ad-aware, spybot, cwshreder, and winstock. Nothing has
changed. I have even tried reinstalling my network adaptor.

What else is there?

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic" and post a description of your symptoms. If they need to
see your log they will ask for it.

I am waiting for a response. Looks like a lot of people have this problem
too. Would repairing and/or re-installing IE help?

If you have a Internet Firewall program (ex: Norton Internet Security)
running other than the one with SP2 try disabling that one or the one that
comes with SP2. I have cable too and I could not connect with the Internet
after downloading and installing SP2 until I disabled one or the other
firewalls.

Hope this may be of some help to you.
