Hello guys.
I just bought this motherboard, had the P4P800Deluxe, and now it's kaos as I
can't get windows XP Pro installed.
I've got the RAID controller (promisse) disabled as I do not need RAID and
de IDE is set to enhaced so when it intalls windows XP pro everything's
fine, it formats the HDD and it installs the files in it however when it
boots up to continue the installation it simply starts the instalation from
scratch back to formatting the HDD.
Anyone with this problem before and how do I get by this problem????
P4P800Deluxe was fine.....:-(
Many thanks,
Carlos

I've been reading in the windowsxp.general newsgroup about problems with SP2 and
motherboards with the Intel 865 or 875 chipset. Are you by chance trying to load XP
with SP2 slipstreamed?

I was reading the windowsxp.general newsgroup also and saw this:
_________________________________________________

There is no problem with SP2 and Intel 865/875 chipsets. If you
experiencing a problem, it's likely your BIOS settings are not set
correctly. For example, you should turn-off the motherboard's
power-saving features and let Windows XP handle it. Also, disable
USB legacy support and use "native" support. Additionally,
plug-n-play should be disabled since XP is a plug-n-play O/S.

trying
to load XP kaos
as I

Hello.
I got the problem no solved but not the way I wanted.
I was having this problem, still am, cause I was using a removable hard driv
e disk rack, I took the HDD out connected to the motherboard and windows XP
after the first reboot no longer trys to start the installation but yes, ask
to hit any key to boot from cd-rom.
I want to use these racks as I have 2 HDD and was thinking thatt one's just
for the games and the other one's just for normal use of internet, ebay,
docs, files, whatever.
I had used in the past many racks and they all worked but this one don't
know why it just won't let the system boot if usiing it, guess I'll have to
swap disks, so for now my option is to have booth HDD in the tower and
whenever I whant to boot on the games one I'll just have to go to the BIOS
and change the boot as when I press F8 it only displays me one disk which
can be the primary or the slave one.
Cheers

Maybe the optical drive is set in the BIOS as your only bootable
device?

1. Carey Frisch doesn't know what she is talking about.
2. She is frequently criticized in the windows newsgroups for
erroneous posts.
3. She was wrong again with the post which you quoted below
because a "real" MVP came along and corrected her.
4. Don't believe everything you read by an "MVP".
5. There's not a thing wrong with my BIOS. The problem
is that SP2 does not properly recognize the new motherboard"s
capabilities, particularly regarding ACPI, and you have to hit the
F5 key to select ACPI during the XP setup process or XP will
not recognize that ACPI exists and the PC will not power down.
6. There are known issues with Service Pack 2 and Intel 865 and 875
chipsets, and we do not know how to fix the problem.

I stand corrected and apologize for posting incorrect information.

Is there a problem installing SP2 on ALL 865/875 motherboards, or just on
some of them? I have a P4P800-E Deluxe and I'd like to install SP2 (XP
Home), but not if I'm going to experience problems.

John

Windows XP and SP2 installed perfectly and runs very smoothly on my
P4C800E-Deluxe -- that's an 875 chipset I believe. I think that very few
people have had any problems at all. The newsgroups exaggerate their
numbers, first because only pepople with problems tend to post and second
because there are people who want to make it seem as if everything that
Microsoft does is catastrophic. All good wishes.

Nope my friend it is not the only boot device.
The problem is that i was using these removable hard drive rack and windows
did see the HDD and it installs the files in it however for some reason
after the first boot on instalation it just does not see the HDD for some
reasson unknow so far and I know for sure that the files are in the disk
ready for the windows xp instalation.
I took the HDD out of the rack connected it directly into the motherboard
and what you know???????? After the first boot on windows XP Pro instalation
it sees the boot CD Rom, asks to press any key to boot from it *thats the
way it should be* I don't press it and setup continues normal now booting
from the HDD.
Gotta figure out a way to have this running though as I bought these racks
so that I could have 2 HDD, one for games and one for normal pc use.
Cheers for the help.

I've put it on a few, 1016 and 1017 ver bios, and a 1014.

My advice, list the applications you use a lot (Nero etc) and go to the
vendor websites to see if they have an updated version that is
compatible with SP2, having a utility bust on you post-install will suck
if you plan on using it.

And none of the 865 chipset boards I've put it on (mostly intel
video/sound/lan models) seemed ok, no problems, expect more software
related glitches and problems than hardware.

There appears to be a known problem with these motherboards and SP2 - when
you are
running with a Prescott processor. Extracts from MS XP2 newsgroup.......

This is a known problem. Some systems with a Prescott CPU on a i865 and
i875 chipset motherboards have this exact problem with Service Pack 2.
The only way to work around it is to disable the L1 and L2 cache for
your processor. As you can imagine, this will absolutely kill the speed
of your computer. I would disable the L1 and L2 Cache, boot into XP,
uninstall SP2, enable L1 and L2 Cache, and use SP1 until a fix is
released.
You need to apply a BIOS update to your motherboard, if your
manufacturer has released one yet. See
<http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7447> for more, and an intermediate
workaround of disabling L1/L2 cache

The list of motherboards known to have this problem has expanded to include:

Albatron PX865 PE Pro
Shuttle SB61G2
Jetway i875P
Soyo P4I865P
Aopen AX4SG Max
Asus P4P800-E deluxe
Abit IS7-V
Foxconn 865A01-G-6EKRS
