Hi,
During exit or rebooting, I am getting following error:

SyncServiceBasic.exe - Application Error.

This happens to both of my office and home computer (WinXP Pro SP2).
Could someone explain what this is about? Jorge

The error message points to possible presence of computer virus or
other types of malware.

My computer is running AVG 8.0 (paid version).
I am surprised if AVG could not catch this SOB.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, I see PC's every day that are infected
despite active AV applications.

FWIW, there is a set of files with SyncServices in its name. They
are related to Apple Mobile Devices. If you have installed something
from Apple that fits its description of mobile devices (or even iTunes)
then the file may be legit although there is no reference anywhere
to syncservicesbasic.exe (not even via Google).

No. I even cannot read the word Apple :-)

Check the Event Viewer for any errors and a possible resolution to the
problem.
Click Start > Run, type in: eventvwr.msc and press Enter or click Ok.
Expand the event viewer window.
Click once on either Applications or System in the Left pane.
Double click on an error listed in the Right pane to bring up a details window.
Click the link if present at the end of the description to a page with a
"possible solution".

syncservicesbasic.exe is in my Taskmanager list of programs.
At first I tried Google to find out what it is, but I only got a sparce few
posts from people who didn't know what it was.
Then, I did a little back tracking and realized I hadn't seen that program
running anytime BEFORE I installed a Seagate External Hard Drive (750GB).
So, I looked on my main drive under Programs and in the Seagate folder, and
sure enough, in the last folder was "syncservicesbasic.exe"
Apparently it's part of their rather superfluous software that comes with
the drive. I mean, most people who add an external hard drive simply want it
for a place to dump files so that they won't take up the main HD's space,
right? Why would I need all this silly back up software with an external
drive?
I haven't gone so far as to find a way to remove it yet (though it probably
just involved going into Add/Remove Programs and removing it).

Anyway, not sure about the whole "Apple" angle, and I seriously doubt its
Malware or a Virus.

Do you have any Seagate tech in or outboard your computer?
