I have a Gateway 4026GZ running windows XP. Several months ago I got a virus
on it, and desided it was time for a full system restore anyways. Well ever
since doing the full restore, the Advanced Power Management does not seem to
recognize when the laptop is running off Battery... it always indicate that I
am running off AC. Typically this is not a problem, since it still runs off
battery, but because it is recognizing it as AC I do not get any low battery
indicators, and if I am not careful when it gets to low I lose complete power
with no alarm. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the APCI and
APM drivers, but still no luck. When looking at the options under the APM
settings I have noticed that there is no "alarms" tab anymore... there is
however a "UPS" tab. It almost seems as if the APM is running as if it thinks
my laptop is a desktop. Does anyone know how I can check or change the APM to
recognize this as a portable computer?

How was the full restore done? Most "pre-installed" XP versions
usually come with a "recovery" system which will replace the installed
XP with the original "factory" installed version. This is usually a
complete image copy of when the PC was shipping out,

If you did a complete fresh install of XP, you need to install all the
drivers and other "tweaked" applications provided by the
manufacturer. You should have received CDs that contains these
drivers and applications. Or you will have to check on the company's
web site(s.)
