help with anti spyware installation

Hello
I am a fairly novice user but have been protecting my computer for some time
now with lavasoft adaware. However I have recently found out that I still may
have spyware not removed by that ( although it deletes things on every scan).
I have been told to install spybot s&d. I am a bit paranoid about installing
things , if I am unsure if they are genuine, as I know there are copycat
programs out there. I want to know the genuine publisher of spybot search and
destroy. Can anyone tell me if it is PepiMK ?
Also if I download spybot and run adaware, do I also need to install windows
defender which I have just found out about. Don't they all do the same thing
and will they stop each other working.
Please, any help would be appreciated and please keep your answers
relatively simple as I am not a technical person.

Hi, yes pepi is correct for spybot, and yes all of them work fine together i
have adaware, spybot, defender beta 2, and nortons running. and all are
running in sync just fine....just a note there is not any 1 product on the
market that removes everything. you just have to be careful to keep
everything in sync. you can get away with having more than 1 spyware cleaner
but you can only have 1 firewall and virus protection...as I say choose
wisely..I also recommend using pop up blockers I am using 2 of them I am
using nortons and msn explorer blocker...also have windows but i keep it
disabled. as it clashes with the other 2. Hope this info helps....note only
use what your system resourses will allow you as i have many programs
installed ..I also have large hd and 2gigs memory so you dont want to
overload your system either.

I have downloaded spybot now, but have some concerns. On the help pages,
under FAQ there is a question there that seems odd to me. I am wondering if I
have got a bogus version after all. Could you have a look in your help
facility of spybot. Under FAQ the 9th question is Who is the Most Wonderful
Girl On Earth? I find that a bizarre thing to have in there and the answer
too .

I never noticed it before but...

It is in my legitimate copy.

I think it is cool to immortalize one's friendship in their software.

So I have a valid spybot after all! Its really nice that he does that but it
did seem odd! Bet the girl is thrilled.
Thanks for clearing up my concerns though.
 
hi you have got the correct version of spybot downloaded. be sure to run it
regularly
to keep your system clean. Just for the record I don't know why that about
the most beautiful girl...however I think it may be to make sure you read it.
after all it is a free program so they can put whatever they want into it. it
is and excellent program to have.

I reckon it's a cool thing to include in yyour software but for idiots like
me it confuses me, thanks for puuting my mind at rest.
