My computer hicuped on bootup and went to a backup copy of the registry. Now
my ATI software does not work .. at least the TV part. Running an AIW
Radeon 7500 on this box.

I have a copy of the install CD (I think it's 7.02) .. and I *was*
successfully running the upgrade to 9.02 (which I have on my HD), but I
don't remember which order things need to be installed .. and I know that's
important.

Do I need to install the stuff off the CD first, or can I just install the
9.02 files .. and in either case .. what order?

I wouldn't use the original files. You only need the CD for verification to
install the DVD player .
ati.com/install is very helpful.

I can't get into that page. Can anyone tell me the order I need to install
these things?

DirectX
WMP Codecs (if required)
WDM Capture Drivers
Video Driver
Control Panel
DVD
MMC
Gemstar

Go to the Advanced Search and search by ID for 20870. If you can't get to
it that way something must be wrong with your browser settings. It's in the
secure(HTTPS) section. The info on the page is much more detailed than
anyone is likely to post to a message.

Ok .. thanks .. I know can get to the pages .. and I found the order
installation page .. BUT

I ran the ATI diaognostic program and it tells me that my video driver (Win
XP) is too old. It says I need 7.85 or newer. I checked and I'm running
6.13.10.3286 ... likely that came off the original CD because I deleted
all the ATI files in an effort to get things up and running again.

Again, I'm running AIW Radion 7500 and 9.02 (not the video driver of course)
is the highest I can use. I've got some 9.02 upgrade files, but I don't
think I've got a new video driver. Where do I find something that will
work?

The Catalyst drivers contain the video drivers and WDM drivers for the AIW.
The 6.5 version supports your card but you may want an older version that
doesn't require the Catalyst Control Panel which requires .NET. You'll find
them in the Previous Drivers section. If you get something older than 6.1
you should be OK.
In case you don't know Catalyst releases are numbered year.month. Normally
5.12 would have been the last release of 05 but their was a bonus 5.13
release.

OK thanks to everyones help I am now back up and running.

However, I now have good news and bad news ...

The good news .. previously whenever I started the TV viewer I would get a
box saying that something or other (I forget exacty what) could not be
enabled .. and I would have to manually clear the box before continuing. Not
a big problem, except, that the box also came up when the automatic
recording of TV was scheduled. So that to record anything on a timer I would
have to have the program already running.

I no longer get that box .. so a timed recording will automatically start as
it's supposed to.

The bad news .. watching the TV tuner (and the recordings made from the
tuner) the picture is noticably less sharp than before.

I don't know what version of Catalyst I used to run .. but now I'm running
.... ?? .. how do I tell what version of catalyst I'm running? The file
names are so cryptic.

I do not believe that the picture quality is in any way a function of
the driver. I believe that either you are imagining things, or there is
another explanation (which could be in the computer, or it could be in
the antenna or cable system to which the tuner is connected).
