Help with a text box problem!

Hello,
I want to place some text over a line (connector, actually) and want the text to be over the line in such a way that the line appears to be discontinued in the area of the text (I am not sure if I am explaining this well enough!).

I changed the "fill" of the text to white and moved the text over the line. It worked perfectly, until I tried to print! It prints with a thin lined box around the text, even though I don't see the box on the screen. I have made sure that I have checked "no line" for the Line option, I still see a box around the text.

How do I get rid of the box, or is there any other way to do what I am trying to do?

Thanks in advance,

Michelle

Maybe draw a line on either side of the text and unfill the textbox? When
you create a filled text box (even without a line), you WILL get a line
around it when printed (unfortunately).

Hi Michelle,

try printing "Grayscale" instead of pure black&white, if your printer
supports it.

Which version of PowerPoint are you using? In PowerPoint 2002/2003 you can
use "View | Color/Greyscale" to view (and modifiy) how your slides appear on
a b/w-printer.

Kind regards,
Ute

Ooo, good question. Kicked me into working this one out:

Draw a rectangle or text box and add text to it. Position it where you
want it to be (atop the line, in this case)

Now rightclick it and choose Format [autoshape or textbox, whichever
appears]

On the Colors and lines tab of the format dialog box, click the down-arrow
next to the Color: box and choose Background. Note: can't do this from
the drawing toolbar - background fill isn't available there.

That should do it.

the background is a good trick, but so is unchecking both
the greyscale and b&w boxes in the print dialog box. this
will give you a more acurate color represention of what
you have on screen and fix other odd printing issues that
occur on b&w printing. doesn't drop background colors,
etc..
