I'm hoping someone might have a similar setup, or an idea what has
gone wrong. I have my main PC in my bedroom and also have a laptop.
The PC is using XP Pro and the laptop has Vista Premium installed on
it. Unfortunately, I only can get dial up for my internet connection.
Both the PC and Laptop have modems.

I also have a wireless router that I used mainly for file sharing.
But a couple of months ago I was able to set it up so that if my PC
was on and connected to the internet I could connect to the net on
the laptop with the built in wireless card.

I know it sounds stupid, but it was nice to be able to take the
laptop outside or also to play net games with the wife. Everything
worked great, until last night. I connected on my PC, but every time
we try to open a browser on the laptop the default dial up pops up. If
I click cancel I get the working online message.

The frustrating part is I know that neither of us touched or changed
anything in the settings. If I look in Vista's network center it
show's me connected to my wireless network, but not to the internet.
It gives me some message about DNS entries. I am hoping that someone
could walk me through this or give me some suggestions.

As you say, not really the right group for networking questions, but at
a rough guess I would say that the problem is that the router is not
able to connect to the internet through your computer that is dialling
up.

I take it that you connect from main computer, have ICS on and connect
from that computer to WLAN socket on router so that the router is
treated like a 2nd computer sharing your connection. If this fails to
work then any other computers connecting via the router may well be part
of the router's network, but can get no further.

OK, on laptop, fire up internet explorer, tools, internet options,
connections, never dial a connection, apply, ok. Then check your Internet
connection sharing settings on both systems. For help run help and type
internet connection sharing. -Dave
