Using WindowsXP SP 1 on a Dell Inspiron 8200, 1.4G, 256Meg Ram. First, when
I insert a CD or plug in my Iomega Zip250 (USB), I get an annoying screen
that asks what action I'd like taken. I have checked "Take no action" and
handle it this way all the time, but each time I use these items, the same
screen pops up. How can I eliminate this screen, or at set it all the time
to take no action?

Second, in Windows Explorer, I'd like all the windows to show details. I
have set what I think are the right settings to do this, but each time I
come back to various windows, I'm looking at small icons when I want to see
details. How do I set Windows explorer to open each window to show details
every time?

Thanks. --Art

For your second question open Win Explore and set the options you want then open folder option view
tab and click "Apply to all folders" then make sure you have "Remember each folder's view settings"
checked. Now everything will open with the detail view but you can change individual view settings,
like for "Control Panel" to show just large icons, and all the rest of the folders will be detail
view.

Hi,

Both are common bugs in XP.

AutoPlay options and a repair tool can be found here under AutoPlay.

Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

For your second issue:

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Windows Explorer/View/[Select Accordingly]. Then Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to All Folders.

Thank you, Kelly and Shootist.
