1. Every so often a "Dell Support Alert" appears in the system tray (new
Dell computer). How can I disable this function?

2. Jpeg images are labeled "Dell Image Expert Picture." I have changed the
file associations to programs I want, and the file types, but how do I
change the "Dell Image Expert Picture" file type label that keeps coming up
under "file type" in Windows Explorer?

Thanks.

Hi,

1) Look in Control Panel>Add/remove programs for the specific "Dell Support
Alert" Program and uninstall it.

2) If you want the jpeg files to be handled by the Windows Picture and fax
viewer, then try this:

type 'regsvr32 shimgvw.dll' (without quites) at Start>Run and press enter.
This should associate the jpeg files with the picture and fax viewer.

Anando: Thank you. For #2, I have successfully associated jpegs with MS
Photo Editor, which is what I want. The problem is that when I go into
Windows Explorer, the file type continues to say "Dell Image Expert
Picture." I want the file type to read "jpeg" or "jpg." How do I do that?
Thanks.

Hi,
I think you can change that from tools>folder options and from the file
types tab. Good luck !

Yes. I did that, but the file type for old as well as new jpegs still says
"Dell Image Expert Picture." My question is, how can I change that
designation to just "jpeg"?

Hi,
Click on tools>folder options and flip to the file types tab. Select the
entry marked jpeg and click in advanced. In the edit file type dialog enter
the new name and click ok. Repeat this procedure for jpe and jpg files as
well. After this the file type should show whatever was specified by you.
Please do post back if you have any difficulties.
