Hi there,

We have a Windows 2000 box being used as a file server and backup of the two
laptops that get connected to it. It is connected to the internet and not
particular maintained.

All of a sudden when accessing files from it, or trying to out files on it,
it just reboots.

The PC itself is about 4 years old.

Does anyone have any idea of how to start to try and resolve this issue.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Dave.

Check the Event Viewer for errors and report any errors here. Run the
hardware diagnostic utilities that came with the machine. RAM errors
(bad RAM) often cause spontaneous reboots. Run chkdsk on the drive(s)
and defragment the drives.

Thanks John, will try all of those things. If they should all be OK, any
other suggestions about what I could try?

Also any certified engineers in London who may want to help me out? Cheers
