Whenever I try to open certain web pages, my browser (whether it's IE,
Firefox, Opera) simply closes automatically without warning.

I've disabled my firewalls (Norton and XP SP2) and STILL I get the same
problem!

What is going on here, and how can I fix this problem? Please help -
thanks.

Got pop-up blocking software?

Are you at work?

Do we get to know what these "certain web pages" are?

I do have blocking software, but normally the browser doesn't just
close on you when popups happen - you get a warning at least. And
these sites are legit - pages like rental agencies, etc. Someone said
it might be the java applets from the sites, but I've enabled them on
my browser. Like I said, I've disabled all security features from XP
SP2 and Norton and I still have the same problem... :-(

I'm not familiar with every blocking application in the world, however the
pop-up blockers I am familiar with either close pop-ups immediately after
they load or prevent them from loading in the first place. In either case,
this can cause the browser to close, depending on how the new page is coded
to be opened and how the application responds to it.

Since you won't share any details with us, perhaps you can ask the technical
support people at the company who wrote your blocking software. At least
they'll know what program you're using.

What in the world is with the attitude: "you won't share any details
with us"?

That's a very presumptuous and rude thing to say, especially since I
haven't "willed" withholding anything from you. And it's all the
worse, because one can only be intentionally rude and uncivil to say
such a thing.

You have a serious human relations problem, and it is actually quite
disturbing.

But in any case, I've fixed the problem - it had to do with installing
the latest Java Runtime Environment. Thanks to those who pointed out
the solution.

Thanks for the help! I've been trying to fix this for a while. I don't use
IE6, I use Firefox most of the time and this affected both. Seems to me that
the sites most affected were firearms related if it matters. Take care,
Andy
