Help, what did I do? XP takes 20 seconds to open window on right click

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP (home) with Office 2000 Pro on a PC
with 2.4GHz and 512Mb of DDR2700 Ram.

When I right click on a file to select open with, XP takes
about 20 seconds to open the window. If I double-click a
file, which is associated with the proper MS Office app, it
also takes 20 sec to open. But if I open the MS Office app
first it starts instantly, then selecting the file to open
from the open menu starts the file instantly.

What the heck is going on here, these scenarios used to open
instantly.

I have re-installed Office 2000 Pro, defragged my PC, searched
for viruses, and run Ad-aware and Spybot. All to no avail.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Norm

If I am not wrong, this maybe due to the problem in the registry. I suggest
you try to find some free registry cleanup tools to scan through and cleanup
those unwanted entries in the registry. You can try using RegScrubXP or
RegCleaner.

I d/l RegScrubXP, it found 52 errors, so I let it correct them. It still
didn't make any difference to opening files by double-clicking them, or
right clicking them. <sigh>

Thanks
