Hi All,

Shorlty i will be purchasing a new hard drive and
completely get rid of my old one. Can anyone tell me what
the best option is to install windows again to a new hard
drive. Where do i begin and what should i do.

Norton Ghost 2003 will allow you to completely copy the old drive to the new
drive and you may not have to re-activate XP.

Plan the partitioning of the drive for security, stability,
ease of reconstruction and use.
I like to have a partition for the operating system and
application files, another partition for data (My Documents)
and a partition for downloads and multi-media files.

What you do will depend on what type of media you have for
the OS and your applications. Do you have real MS XP CDs?

I would prefer to do a clean install of the OS and
applications that I want and leave all the programs that I
don't want (Real Player etc) out. Then I would set up the
system to save the files where I wanted (TweakUI is good for
doing this).

Then I would install the original drive as slave and copy
the data files to the appropriate partition. It is a good
time to get the folder tree cleaned up.

There are some articles on TechTV (www.techtv.com) on howto
stuff such as this.

Other good advice from the MVPs sites and Google can be your
friend if you use a clear search term.

Take your time.
