HELP w/ Vista Folder Views - REWARD offered

I have the same problem. Very annoying, as is Vista's tendency to forget
other settings, which seems to happen quite frequently.

Obviously, in Folder Options, on the View tab, "Remember each folder's view
settings" must be checked. Vista is set up to "remember" 5000 folders.
That being said, deleting these two keys in the registry, will give you a
clean slate, and all remembered folder settings in Windows Explorer for view
state, window position, sort order, column information, folder type, toolbar
toggles, and search result views will be lost, and reset to the defaults,
just so you know what to expect; but any corruption, which indeed does
happen, will also be deleted. The keys in Vista are:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU
(right-click on BagMRU and choose delete)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags
(right-click on Bags and choose delete)

Log off and log back on to Windows to re-create the keys (done
automatically), and start anew.

You are preaching to the choir. I'm all too aware of the problem, and have
read hundreds of posts on the matter, pre- and post- Vista RTM, just in
these Vista newsgroups alone. The posters have had all kinds of odd
permutations and combinations of folder view problems, not to mention the
"multiple selection of files" folder problem. Having tested several Beta
versions, and now even using the RTM, a clean install won't solve the
problem, necessarily, and may even highlight the problem, since it seems
most acute after installation, and gets worse from there. Rebuilding BagMRU
and Bags, as per my previous post, is the only viable overall solution at
this point that I know.

I've had the Windows folder using the Music Details template (which can't be
customized back to All Items), the Extended Tiles View in normal folders
(it's just goofy), the "Uninstall or Change a Program" Control Panel using
the Contacts folder template (with Import and Export [contacts] in the
Toolbar), just to name a small few of my own folder view glitches.
Generally, once Vista gets on a "helpful" binge as to remembering user
folder views, and does so wrongly, especially regarding templates, the
problem becomes increasingly insurmountable even when using the usual
various Vista options dialogs regarding folders. Deleting the keys deletes
the corruption, and, at least theoretically, gives you a new and better
chance at Vista properly remembering 5000 folder views. Microsoft is surely
aware of the problem by now...
Why can't you just report this to Microsoft and have them fix the
problem?

Report away:

I have the same problems -

VISTA just refuses to hold my window settings )size, view etc.) especially
so in File Explorer...

Any tips on how to fix this annoying problem.

It has been an issue ever since Windows 98! - How come Microsoft have not
bothered to fix it......

Thanks in advance..
