Hello,
Apologies for the cross-post, but I am really desparate!!
I tried to install a VPN client on my home machine tonight (Cisco VPN
Client), but after the installation, and rebooting, and even before starting
the VPN client, the machine couldn't get an IP address.
After I uninstalled the VPN software, now my networking doesn't work at all.
I can't get an IP address.
If I set a fixed IP address, I can ping other machines if I use their IP
addresses, but pinging with a name (e.g., www.google.com) says "no such
host". When I run IE, it says "Can't find host or DNS error".
I cannot telnet either, even if I use an IP address. For example, if I try
to telnet to my Netgear router (192.168.0.1), it says can't establish
connection. But I can PING 192.168.0.1.
It looks like the TCP/IP stack got hosed by the Cisco install attempt.
Is there ANY way that I can force Windows to re-install ALL of the Windows
network software components?
I'm desparate because I have a project for work that I really need to get
done tonight, and I need network for that (this was my development machine).
Ok, I know it was stupid to do this right now, but I thought the VPN install
would go no problems, and now I'm stuck.
Please, if anyone can help, please post back!
Thanks,
Jim
