My new Dell XPS 410 machine came pre-loaded with Vista Ultimate.
However, the startup "Welcome Center" window has broken links. Some
of
the Welcome Center icons don't have a picture and others point to the
wrong path. For instance, the Vista Mail icon points to "C:
\Programs",
so the application does not open.

Does anybody know of a simple way to add, edit and delete icons in
the
Vista Welcome Center?

Thank you in advance,

J.

Sure - you can edit the xml file directly in oem\info ... just search
for one of the incorrect paths. It's a pretty simple schema.

Properties of Control Panel/System and Maint/Welcome Center/Email Setup

Windows Vista Premium "Welcome Center" email setup was pointing to Outlook
2003 which was a trial version. Unistalled MS Office 2003 trial at expiration
date. Would like to edit the property for email setup to point to Windows
Mail. Presently, the Welcome Center email setup shortcut returns the error
message of Windows cannot find C:\Programs. Right clicking here does not
offer a property page to edit the target of this shortcut for the email
application to be corrected to Windows Mail.
Is there another way to edit this target?

Where do I find the .xml file of oem\info?

In a directory under %SystemRoot%\system32\oem\info
It sounds like they forgot to put quotes around the path to the exe.

Hope that helps,
