I'm having problems getting windows 2000 to recognise devices that I plug
into one of the usb sockets at the back of my computer. It's a problem that
I've had since I downloaded some usb drivers from microsoft in earlier this
year.

I've tried uninstalling the 'VIA USB Universal Host Controller' that is
listed in device manager. Windows then reinstalls it but still it won't
work.

If I right-click on one of the 'USB Root Hub' entries it reports:

Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 19/06/2003
Driver Version: 5.0.2195.6717

My system:
win2k pro sp4
256 MB Ram
VIA chipset

Thanks
Wayne.

Reinstall the VIA 4 in 1 drivers. Visit the web site of your motherboard
manufacturer to get the file.

After reinstalling the Via 4-in-1 drivers, did you check to see which
version of the driver is ACTUALLY being used.

I think Windows may not actually be USING the reinstalled drivers because it
always wants to keep the higher revision # .... so on reinstall back to
lower revision # (previous drivers that worked properly) those files
probably just get skipped over during version checking.

If this is what's going on... you can probably get around it and revert to
your previous drivers from
CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>.... >UPDATE DRIVER
and make windows either (not sure exactly which will work best) 1) show you
all available drivers and find your previous one(s) 2) or direct Windows
along the specific path for the driver or .INF file you want (i.e. original
MB CD, or other location of the drivers)
