I have an ARCDisk, USB 2.0 20 GB Hard disk I just bought.
It's recognized by my work PC which runs XP, and by a home PC I use for work
(also XP). One is a clone and one is a Dell.
But an Alienware laptop and a different clone PC, both running XP, do not
recognize the drive. They say it's an unknown device.
Note 1: I noticed: both the work PC and the home PC used for work use a
corporate version of XP Pro. The other two which do not recognize it are
running versions that came with them when I purchased them.
Note 2: Both the Alienware and the home Clone DO recognize USB flash memory
devices and USB DVD burners.
Out of desperation I ran repair on the clone PC using a corporate version.
Still no go.
When I look at the driver associated with the HD on the ones that work, it's
USBSTOR.SYS. This file exists on the PCs that do not recognize the drive,
same date and size.
What can I do? It's gotta be an OS issue. Help!
