I recently installed a Sony HandyCam USB 2.0 driver designed for Windows XP.
When I ran the installation wizard, it said that it could not be installed in
the current version of Windows (I'm running 32 bit Vista Home Premium). I
forced it to install using the program compatibility wizard. Ever since I've
been getting a Blue Screen and crash every time I shut down windows. I did
some research and found that this driver is causing the problem.
All I want to do now is uninstall the driver. It is shown in the uninstall
or change a program window, but when I chose uinstall, the uninstall wizard
starts and then says "This driver cannont install in the current version of
Windows", and then closes. I found the driver files in the Windows Drivers
folder and moved them, but that did not work so I moved them back into the
folder.

I am wondering if there is any way to get around this message to uinstall
the driver in the wizard, or a way to manually uninstall the driver.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm a bit confused here. Normally you don't uninstall a device driver
from the Programs window -- because a device driver is not a program.
I'm not just being picky -- it's a fundamental difference.
but when I chose uninstall, the uninstall wizard

Can you be more specific? What happened when you tried it?

The normal way to remove a device driver is to go to the Hardware
Manager window and delete the hardware device itself. Is there any
device listed there which looks like your HandyCam?

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!
For some reason, this particular driver is installed as a program would be,
but is still a driver. I searched before and double checked now, but nothing
that could be that driver is shown anywhere in device manager. It is shown in
Uninstall or change a program as “Sony DVD Handycam USB Driver 2â€. When I
chose uninstall, Install Shield Wizard comes up and then the message “SEVERE
– USB Driver cannot be installed in the current version of Windows.†pops up
.. When OK (the only option) is chosen, the wizard closes. This driver is
designed for XP, so Install Shield is thinking it is not compatible with
Vista and therefore preventing the wizard from continuing. I should be able
to uninstall this driver in the Program Compatibility Wizard if I knew how to
utilize it to uninstall.
This is sort of a confusing situation – a driver managed in Programs and
Featured yet behaving as a driver.
Thanks again for your help!

I have done the same thing. I forced the install of the XP driver (which
does not work) and now I can't get it uninstalled. Mine also shows up in the
Installed Programs list with the same title. I am not having any stability
problems though. My camcorder does not work with it installed.

The solution I finally came to was not an easy one - reformation with the
Vista DVD. :(
If you do that, make sure you back up all your files first!
I chatted with a sony Rep and they said there are currently no drivers for
the handycam for Vista. She said there may be some ready this fall.
I learned the hard way - don't install any drivers not certified for Vista.
Good luck!

P.S. If you come up with a better solution, I'd love to hear it in case I
run into a similar problem. Thanks!

That's great. So how exactly did you crack it, then?
Thanks for your time and your expertise :)

That is an excellent, easy solution. I wish I had thought of that!
Thank you for your time!
God bless you

I also installed Picture Package and tried to run my Sony Handycam
DCR-DVD203E on my new Vista Home Premioum package, with disastrous results. I
eventually cured the blue screen and rebooting by managing to install Sony
DVD Handycam USB Driver2, but I am still left with getting a blue screen and
reboot when I insert a CD with saved files.
I feel the position would be greatly improved if I could uninstall both
drivers (Sony Handycam USB and version 2) and the Picture Package, but just
cannot do it.
What infuriates me is that I cannot get an answer or make proper contact
with either Microsoft or Sony, who between them have created the situation. I
am the innocent victim!
If anybody can help me I would really appreciate it.
Regards to all who show an interest

Thanks for the suggestion but I have already tried that. Unfortunately I have
been trying to rectify this problem for nearkly two months now and I do not
have a restore point earlier then when I installed the b********** Sony
programme.
What I need is some way to uninstall a Windows XP driver from Vista.
Vista should be able to supply the answer but I cannot seem to contact them
- all I get is lists of answers. none of which relate to my problem.
Regards
Jim

I have had success with PROGRAMS that did not have uninstallers by manually
editing the registry. But DRIVERS...?

Maybe your only choice left now is a format and fresh install of Vista.

Thanks for your rapid response, I wish Windows Vista people were half as
good! Your solution frightens me to death!! Hopefully Sony will bring out a
Vista compatible update of Picture Package that will solve the problem. I
will hang fire until either that happens or somebody else coming upo with a
solution.
Any ideas as to how one makes contact with a real person at Vista?
Thaks again for your advice - appreciated.

And what if you try to install the package again, start the installer and
see if it doesn't have a remove option?

If that doesn't works you could try to install the package again in XP
compatability mode.
