John M.

I bought my PC with an existing copy of XP Pro. I want to get rid of it, as
I don't have the disks or license. After some discussion with MS Support, I
have backed up all my data files, etc. I would LIKE to uninstall the XPPro,
reformat, repartition, and then load my legit copy of XP Home. (I have
purchased a full, non-upgrade version.)
XP Pro doesn't give the option of uninstalling. I can't load XP Home until I
get rid of what's there. I am willing to just reformat the C drive and start
from scratch. But so far, at a c: prompt, the 'format' or 'fdisk' commands
won't proceed.
Can anybody help?

John;
Follow this for a Clean Installation:
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:

Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.
