HELP unable to update for DST!!

After running the tzedit tool without any problem, when I tried to go into
the date/time in control panel I got ""You do not have the proper privilege
level to change the system time." I was logged on as the administrator at
the time who should have all the privileges needed to do something so simple.

I tried that exhaustive 19 page bit too on KB914387 and got the same result.

In secpol.msc I can see where the "Change system time" is granted to the
"Power users" and the power users group doesn't even have anyone in it. I
then added the administrators to the power users group, which still didn't
solve the problem.

I also tried adding administrator to the "change system time" and that
didn't do it either.

I've got to find a solution to this problem. Does anyone know what I can
do? This is happening on one of my W2K servers as well, and I put a post in
that group yesterday and still haven't gotten any replies. I'm hoping
someone knows what I can do because I don't think Microsoft will support W2K.

Use regedt32.exe and check the security settings on:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation

I've been in there looking at that, nothing comes to mind as being an obvious
security setting. There's

Which key is the security key?

Are You using Regedt32? Highlight the key then click on the Security |
Permissions... Menu on top and verify that you have Read and Full
control on the key. Also click on the Advanced button and highlight the
proper user and click on the View/Edit button. Make sure that you have
allowed permissions on all entries:

Create Subkey
Enumerate Subkeys
Notify
Create Link
Delete
Write DAC
Write Owner
Read Control

You can't do security with Regedit, you have to use Regedt32.

When I tried running regedit32 I got an error "Can't find the file
'regedit32' (or one of it's components). Make sure the path and filename are
correct and that all required libraries are available.

Okay I went into system32 and ran it from there instead from the run command.

I don't have the keys you list below. All I have are the keys I listed a
couple of posts ago.

If I had to add the key(s) are they all of the REG_WORD class?

workstation in the same time zone, you can copy the key and values at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation

to the server with the broken key.

I know I added the "administrators" group to the "change the system time" in
secpol.msc the other day and even rebooted
but that didn't work then.

This morning I rebooted this machine again, and it's like a miracle. It
allowed me to get into
the system time?!!! I was able to do this both with the server and with the
users box!!!

Initially I tested this on the users machine the other day and it was not
successful, but
this morning I was able to reboot first the server, then the users box and
it worked!!!

I'm not entirely sure what series of events occurred to correct the error,
because until just
now I was not able to reboot the server, I think on the server I went into
regedt32, gave
administrator rights, shut down the Oracle DB, then rebooted and it
worked!!! I then went
to the users PC, there in which I had already did the other day without
success, I rebooted
it, and when it came back up. For some reason, it worked this time?!!!!

Problem seems to be solved. Thank you John. Again, I'm not sure how the
users PC
seemed to solve itself as I did the very same thing the other day without
success, yet
this morning, it worked!! I'm am going to have to trace the steps I took
again later.
I have high hopes that this information will help someone else who may be
encountering
the same issues as I did, but where I am at I'm sort of at the end of the
whole
"Time Zone" chain. The only places behind me are Hawaii and Guam.

You're welcome. All's Well That Ends Well...

I know I added the "administrators" group to the "change the system time" in
secpol.msc the other day and even rebooted
but that didn't work then.

This morning I rebooted this machine again, and it's like a miracle. It
allowed me to get into
the system time?!!! I was able to do this both with the server and with the
users box!!!

Initially I tested this on the users machine the other day and it was not
successful, but
this morning I was able to reboot first the server, then the users box and
it worked!!!

I'm not entirely sure what series of events occurred to correct the error,
because until just
now I was not able to reboot the server, I think on the server I went into
regedt32, gave
administrator rights, shut down the Oracle DB, then rebooted and it
worked!!! I then went
to the users PC, there in which I had already did the other day without
success, I rebooted
it, and when it came back up. For some reason, it worked this time?!!!!

Problem seems to be solved. Thank you John. Again, I'm not sure how the
users PC
seemed to solve itself as I did the very same thing the other day without
success, yet
this morning, it worked!! I'm am going to have to trace the steps I took
again later.
I have high hopes that this information will help someone else who may be
encountering
the same issues as I did, but where I am at I'm sort of at the end of the
whole
"Time Zone" chain. The only places behind me are Hawaii and Guam.
