we encounter system board failure for our checkpoint f/w. thus we pluck
out the harddisk and swap into another server (same hardware config).
when boot up, it is able to boot checkpoint and access internet.
however, all other servers and clients pcs are not able to access
internet. At the dospromt, we did a ping for the f/w and dns server and
get reply from., we can only ping 66.94.230.35 successfully but not
www.yahoo.com. in the browser, we type in IP addr or URL name but are
not able to launch any website. any idea how to resolve? is it
something to do with the firewall or dns ?

pls advise asap or email to (e-mail address removed)

Hi

If you can ping the IP but not name then its almost certainly a DNS issue.
Sadly you would need to provide far more info about your setup for anyone to
give you a decent answer otherwise we are just guessing

Can you resolve internal DNS queries for instance or do they fail too, are
you in an AD environment? where do clients get their DNS addresses from? and
are they internal DNS servers or external? (like your isp , incidentally this
is a no - no for AD domains, internal DNS only)

If you could post an ipconfig /all from a failing client and the server this
would really help to identify your issue, there is an MSKB about some FW
blocking DNS queries due to max packets sizes too

If you post the info I will try and help

Regards

Simon
