Dear Group,

I'm upgrading my 2003 AD Domain controller. While I've researched how
to move all of the active directory FSMO roles, I'm unclear of the
best way to move the DNS SOA. I'm currently going to create from
scratch but theirs got to be a better way. Not much luck on the net.
Your help is appreciated.

If both the new and old servers are W2K3, the easiest way is to create
an ADI zone and just allow normal replication to happen. Either DC in an
AD domain can act as the SOA for the ADI zone. If the old server is
already offline, convert it's zone to a standard primary and copy the
zone file to the new server. Then create a new standard primary zone on
the new server, copy the zone file to the proper location (google, I've
forgotten the path). Verify the records from the snap-in on the new
server, then convert the zone to an ADI.

Kurt,

Thanks. I finally found instructions on the MS site. Funny how the
wrong search criteria can turn out empty results in a search engine.
I can post the link if you like.
