I am trying to fax a black and white image (.jpg format)
in XP. The fax wizard takes the image that I want to fax
and converts it to a .TIFF format. However, once it
coverts the image, it becomes incredibly grainy in
appearance and hard to make out.

Is there a way to control how the image is converted?
How do I achieve a clearer image for faxing?

Thanks !

Is the fax wizard changing the size of the image? If it's being enlarged
that might account for the graininess.

You might try converting the image to .TIFF with another program. Most
graphics editors allow you to do this. Fax may then send it without further
processing.

Turns out that the Windows XP print driver does not
support high quality image faxing. I went and bought
WinFax PRO which allows me to fax high quality images and
it worked great! Well worth the money!

Yes, I'm no fan of MS fax software either. They put enough effort into it to
say it's there, and that's all! Really, it couldn't take much more to make a
really good product.
