Sam

I've been moving my Outlook from home to office & back by
exporting outlook.pst to a portable drive, and then
importing it.

This worked well for a while, but now my RECURRING
APPOINTMENTS ARE MULTIPLYING: each day shows MANY copies
(and reminders) for each one I'd entered.

When I try to delete one, for a single occurrence or for
all, I get an error message

The messaging interface has encountered an unkown
error. If this continues, restart Outlook.

Unfortunately, restarting Outlook doesn't help, running
detect & reapir doesn't help, and re-installing doesn't
help.

At this point, my calendar screen is FULL of appointments
at the the relevant hour, and the number is growing daily.

How can I purge these things and keep them from
multiplying?

are you copying the pst or exporting and importing it?

see if starting outlook with the cleanreminders switch helps the error:

at start menu, run, type
outlook.exe /cleanreminders

For a long time, I copies the OUTLOOK folder. Then I got
a new box, and I can't seem to find the active OUTLOOK
folder, so I began im/exporting it. That's when the
trouble began.

I tried the cleanreminders switch you suggested, and the
system told me it couldn't find the file!!! When I tried
without the switch, outlook opened, so I know I got the
correct file.

Did I note I'm running OUTLOOK 2000?

Any more ideas?

New manifestation: trying to delete a journal item, I get
the same error message about the unknown error from the
messanging interface!

What the heck is going on? What is the messanging
interface?
