I know this has been discussed before but still need help.. probably a bit
more explicit.

I have XP and OE6 and have four different Identities: Bill/Barb/Joe/Jan

Bill, Barb are on my twisted pair ISP and Joe, Jan are on my new DSL ISP. I
will be keeping the old ISP until I can fully migrate to my new DSL account.
However, once the old is no longer needed I want to delete Bill, Barb
completely.

Bill, Barb have a lot of saved messages that are important to keep.
I've been unsuccessful in exporting/importing those messages and need as
detaliled a description as possible.. No assumptions made about my
capabilities. I've looked in the Help and it was kinda greek.

I did a search for my address book (*.wab) and found it in:
c:/documents and settings/bill/application data/microsoft/address book

However, when I go to find it by moving up the tree.. I can go to c |
documents and settings | bill | and it stops there.. there is no folder
called application data under 'bill'.
My intention was to copy and rename the file:
c/documents and settings/joe/application data/microsoft/addressbook and see
if that worked...

So, I need your help.. Thanks

You can't get any further up the tree, as you put it, because the files you
are looking for are hidden. You can unhide them by openning Windows Explorer
and clicking the Tools icon on the main toolbar. From the drop down menu
select Folder Options. When the folder options window opens click the View
tab and then look down the list for the section 'Hidden Files and Folders'
Now left click your mouse on the radio button next to the option marked
'show hidden files and folders.' Finally click the Apply button followed by
OK to exit. Now you should be able to find the folders you are after.
Of course this is a little time consuming and, really, there is an easier
way.

1/ Open Outlook Express (I assume you are using OE as your mail client)
2/ Click Tools Icon on the main toolbar
3/ From the drop down menu select Options
4/ In the Options window select the Maintainence tab
5/ You will see a button marked 'Store Folder' click on this
6/ A smaller dialog box will come up
7/ If you look in thje dialog box you will see the current location of your
OE email files etc.
8/ Click the Change button and type in a new location for the files. It is
better if you have a seperate data partition in which you can move the
folder to so that, if you need to reinstall xp at any time, you will not
loose our data.
9/ Your files will now be located in your new position.
10/ When you finally change over your isp identities just follow the
instruction i have just given you and change the folder to your new folder
you have created. When you open OE, OE will take it's information from the
folders you created yourself. All your files should then be intact and
visible.

Hope this helps

Just as an after thought. Your address book is much better exported to a
file. Simply open the address book and select import/export and follow the
wizard through to export the file. One piece of advice here. Don't bother
exporting as a WAB file. Instead export the file as a windows csv (comma
seperated value) file. This is by far the less troublesome when you come to
import the details into either OE or Outlook.
