Greetings,
I replace my PIII 773 (?), 384MB PC133 SDRAM in a Triton motherboard,
with a PIII 1GHZ, 512MB PC133 SDRAM in an Abit BX133 motherboard.
I've noticed that the new setup is slower.

What would be good things to check to try and bring the performance up ?

thanks,
-D

slower how and what OS? games? all motherboard drivers are loaded. This was a 'swap' hard drive or new install of OS? DMA
enabled in device manager? sdram timing settings are not set for performance. only about a million things.... Cache on the new chip
is 256 and not 512

Sorry, I knew better than to give that little of info.
Performance for me means how fast it opens an application up for use, and
how fast
it completes acitivities in that application. For example, I develop code
in Borland Delphi 6
enterprise edition. How long it takes to start its IDE, and how fast it
builds/compiles my
projects are another measure of "how fast".

1. The system has an adaptec 29160 SCSI Host Adapter with (2) Quantum SCSI
18GB drives.
2. When the mobo was replaced, the disks were wiped and windows 98 was
installed.
3. I went into the Abit Soft Bios and set the proper CPU freq. I'll have to
look at the
specific PIII 1GHz I have as to the onboard cache.
4. I did not install any drivers from the CD in the motherboard box.
5. I did not change any sdram timing settings as I'm not sure what to do
there.
6. I'll have to check the DMA enabled in device manager, as I'm not sure.

Thanks,
Darryl
