I have 2 problems I need help with PLEASE
1. I have way too many programs starting up when the pc
is turned on ... many of them I don;t need right away and
they slow down the CPU process to 100%. I have to try to
get Task Manager to come up which takes forever, and take
them out of the list there one at a time to free up the
CPU from 100%. How can I get them NOT to load when the
pc starts up, but to have a shortcut on the desktop and
pick them when I need them, and then off when I'm through?

2. I have a Yahoo companion on my tool bar at the top,
but there are 2 of them, and I need to know how to delete
just one of them. The help info from Yahoo that I have
researched does not address that problem.

Thanks for the help
Amber

click start>run and type 'msconfig'.

click the 'start up' tab and uncheck all of those items that you don't want
to start up, eg. ms office, printer managers etc. the only things you really
need at start up are your firewall and anti virus. do a search on the file
name if you're not sure what each entry relates to.

go to add remove programs in the control panel and remove the program.
alternatively, right click on your browser toolbar and de-select the items
you don't want.

Amber,

Mike Lin ( http://www.mlin.net/ ) makes two excellent free programs:
Startup Control Panel and Startup Monitor.

Startup Control Panel is an improved version of MSConfig. SCP allows
you to add a shortcut to, or remove a shortcut from, any of the 5
startup locations in your system.

Startup Monitor is a background task that alerts you when anything is
trying to install itself as a startup item. In terms of resources,
Startup Monitor runs on my system and uses less physical memory that
any process, and less virtual memory than 95% of the processes. I
recommend them both.

Cheers,

Chuck
I hate spam - PLEASE get rid of the spam before emailing me!
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

I also have both of Mike Lins programs and highly recommend them:
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml . Another one is "Startup Cop" from PC
Magazines Site.
As for the Yahoo Toolbar ["Yahoo! Companion" is the proper name I think.],
if two are installed in the Add or Remove Programs part of the Control
Panel, uninstall one and restart to see if the problem is fixed. If only one
is shown, I would simply uninstall it, reboot and then download and
re-install from Yahoo.

I have tried to load both of the programs -- they are
both in "zip files" and I am having problems getting the
zip program to unzip and to install
The shortcut it puts on the desktop just starts the
download and install over and over.
Any further help????
