In internet explorer, whenever I try to type in my mother's maiden name,
"******", in a text field it converts it into stars - ******. For example, I
tried to send an email to her using hotmail, and part of her email address is
has '******' in it. I filled all the text fields out and sent the email. When
the mail sent confirmation appeared, however, it said that it had delivered
to blahbalh******@hotmail.com, (where blahblah is the rest of the address)
and had converted "******" to stars!
Again, when I tried to see if ******.co.uk had been registered as a web
domain, it told me that I couldn't use stars as part of a web address!
Similarly, I tried to search for "******" using google and yahoo and it told
me that ****** had not returned any search results.
I have no godly clue what is going on here, I can only imagine that either
my browser thinks "******" is rude in some way, or it is getting confused
with autocomplete password fields, although I don't use "******" as any of my
passwords. This doesn't happen with Word, excel, or any other program.
Can anyone help? This has never occured before and as far as I am aware does
not occur on other computers with the word ******. Thanks everyone,
Jonothan.

Okay, so it has happened again, I can't seem to write the surname. I really
don't know what is going on. Every time I write it (******, spelt ***********
because it will probably convert it to stars).

OH MY GOD,,okay. for everyone out there, this looks like a practical joke,
but I'm not joking around, this is really starting to annoy me. The surname I
am talking about starts with c, second letter o, third o, fourth n, fifth a,
sixth n. In reverse it is nanooc.

Hi,
Check whatever third-party security programs you're running for a setting
like "Don't send personal information."

Norton Internet Security has an option somewhat like this. Some other
security programs probably have a similar option.

Hope this helps,
