Other than freaking out, are there any errors listed or
does it just shut down? Go into device management and see
what your video card and monitor is showing.Try new
drivers and make sure there are no loose connetions in
back of monitor and computer. Also,it wouldn't hurt to do
checkdisk, disk cleanup, and defrag while you are at
it...Good luck.

thanks for replying. I've looked at the event log and the
error it gives when the startup fails is this long
message: {1BE 1F 766-5536-1101-B726-00C04FB926AF}

I can get windows to at least boot up correctly after I
go into safe mode and disable my video card and system
board devices, but then I've got these lines up and down
my screen and the video is set to the lowest possible
settings (640 X 480 and only 4 colors) and I can't do
anything to change it. When I enable my video card and
try to adjust the settings, it doesn't do anything.

Really frustrated and I can't contact anyone that can
help me figure out what's happening. I guess I'll try to
do all those maintenance things you suggested, but I
really think something major is wrong.

Jon, remove your Video Card from the slot on the Motherboard and reinstall
it. It could be your Video Card is overheating
or failing. Which Card is it?
