thanks for the links, about the networking, any good recommendations
for a router and cards, i'm looking at wireless, one pc is set up with
a network card to the cable modem right now via cable line, but the
other is across the room, rather try wireless if possible. all i'll
need it a wireless router, and wireless cards, correct? atleast
that's what i got my the site, cablesense, anything i'm missing?
I think you have the right idea.
As far as choosing the brand and model, look carefully at what's available, and
at the specs for each. Read the discussions in alt.internet.wireless and
comp.os.ms-windows.networking.wireless. Also the forums at Broadband Reports
(aka DSL Reports) <
http://www.dslreports.com/forums/>. IMHO, the best design is
a router and cards - don't let anyone sell you on ad-hoc (no router) unless you
absolutely can't use a router.
You've got a lot of work to do. As this is your first network, you'll have to
learn networking, then wireless networking, in one go. You'll need the one
computer connected to the router with the cable, to setup the wireless portion.
Then setup each computer, one at a time, to talk to the router wirelessly.
After that, work on the file and printer sharing. When you have file and
printer sharing working, add the security settings that protect your wireless
network. It could be a lot of fun.
BTW, please don't contribute to the spread of email address mining viruses.

posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the internet - never
post your address unmunged.
