Yesterday, all was well. Today, when I went into my e-mail (via windows
mail), I double-click on a piece of mail to read it, but when the 'window'
pulls up, it's just a frame that I can see through... can't see the mail!
Has this happened to anyone else? I can't get help from the PC manufacturer
(eMachines) or from Windows... each says the other is responsible to assist.
Appreciate any help anyone can offer... Thanks!

That problem may be caused by your antivirus program.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, test
your email sending. If it still does not work, the account
has been corrupted by Norton. Delete the account, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

At your convenience, download and install a more compatible
antivirus like the free Avast:

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Why did my new computer with Vista come loaded with a trial version of McAfee
if it's not compatible? Now that I've paid for a subscription to it, I learn
I should not be using it!
I had the same problem with the see-through windows in Windows Mail. It
usually happened after the program was opened for awhile and other programs
were also open. A Microsoft tech guy told me I may be low on resources, but
didn't go into details what to do about it. I found a place on my laptop
saying my memory was at 85% capacity (not good), so I turned off a lot of the
default programs/settings that come with Vista, and it took me down to 65%.
This solved the problem with see-through windows. But then suddenly
yesterday and today I couldn't send out any emails at all (hitting the send
button results in nothing), nor would my contact folder open (gave me error
message "Class not registered"). I was researching this error on line when
suddenly it said, "Windows Mail has stopped working, would you like to
research a solution on line?" I did and it was all fixed, for then anyway.
I still have this problem reoccur daily and now can't get it to fix itself
like before.

The reason new computers come with a trial subscription of
McAfee or Norton antivirus is because the computer sellers
are paid (bribed) by the antivirus companies to do so, in the
hopes that you will purchase a full version when the trial runs out.

The compatibility problem with Windows Mail is not widely
known outside of this cadre of Windows Mail experts.

Thank you both for your input.
After I posted this question, I thought of one last thing I was comfortable
to try, so I did: I restored the system to a point in time when the 'see
through window' situation wasn't happening (that point in time was the prior
day). It resolved the problem, and I didn't have the problem again until
TODAY!!! So now I'll probably restore the system to yesterday, when it
wasn't happening. Hate to think I'll have to do this once a week... but I'm
more comfortable doing this than uninstalling my antivirus software (which is
Spysweeper w/Antivirus).
Thanks again for your help. kdabra - don't know if you might want to try
the same thing - the system restore - but wanted to let you know it worked
for me.
Take care,

Somehow I find it difficult to believe that you are more comfortable
having to repeatedly restore your system to an earlier time, instead
of simply changing your antivirus!
