Hi,

We just recovered from an accidental "delete all files"
disaster on one of our Shared subdirectories and would
like to take steps to secure our directories from this
ever happening again.

I've spent hours trying to configure permissions on a test
directory tree, without success, that has the following
functionality:

All Domain Users can create, read and modify
files/subdirectories in the Share but cannot delete
anything.

Can someone please help me? I'm running W2k Adv. Server
with W2k professional clients.

Thank you very much,
Daniel

Hi Daniel
Unfortunatly what you want cannot be done. If the Doman Users have modify
permissions then they have the right to delete files. The only way to
prevent this would be to limit their rights to read only. The best option
is to backup the files. Windows Server 2003 has the ability to enable
Shadow Copy that will automatically backup the files. and let anyone
restore a previous versionof the file.

Hope that helps.
