Hi there,
I was hoping someone could tell me how I can save a file
as read-only to restrict people who open the file from
making any changes.

Thank you!
Joanna

Hi, Joanna!

If you right click on the file in Windows Explorer you
will see a security tab. That is where you set the
restrictions.

Thank you, Pam - it worked!!

Unfortunately, as easy as it was for you to set a file to "read only,"
that's exactly how easy it is for someone to turn that feature off. It
won't restrict savvy users for long...

Do a save as, then select tools, then select security
options and put a password where it says password to
modify. You will then have to supply the password when
you save the file

FYI: This works in PPT 2002 and 2003, but not in earlier versions.

In Word 2000, try under the TOOLS tab, under the Save Tab, enter "Password to Modify" and "Password to Open" and check the box for "Read-Only". DON'T FORGET YOUR NEWLY CREATED PASSWORDS. I hope this helps
