HELP!! Replication failure on DC(2) prevents logon (&c.)

Greetings All:

We have a domain controller (not the PDC) that is used from time to time for
dual-booting into W2KPRO. During a recent test cycle, the server was
started yet cannot be logged on to except in Directory Services Restore
mode. Apparently some GPO changes may have caused problems leaving us with
an unstable replica. The PDC is alive and well, although has not as yet
been backed-up today.

Event Logs Evts: 7023, 5516, 7023, and 5721.

We would like to know how to solve this replication snafu. Additionally, if
running in this mode, "how to" demote this server, remove it's AD account on
the PDC, the promote it again. As a point of information, is is possible
for this box to be a member server yet still maintain an AD replica?

Any pointers would be urgently appreciated, and thank-you all in advance for
lending a hand.

I don't know your environment there but it appears that this machine is
totally messed up. SID issues, service issues. I would reformat the disk
and clean up the metadata, re-install the o/s, promote it and NOT load a
second o/s on it.

Thank-you Paul. One followup - for the sake of starting this system fresh,
we intend to rename it. We are having trouble removing it from the PDC.
What are we not doing correctly, gived we are following the common steps
gleaned from several sources. More to the point, has Group Policy been
bolixed? If so, is there a way to start over with it as well (short of
rebuilding the PDC/DC infrastructure?)

Thanks

Did you review the link I provided?
