I keep our 8000+ product db in Access 2002. I just performed a Find &
Replace on a portion of one of the fields. This has worked for me in the
past. I did a cntrl-H, filled in the Find What and filled in the Replace
With and tested the first Find & Replace which worked OK. I then proceeded
to Replace All. I got a message that this couldn't be done and then ALL THE
FIELDS IN ALL THE RECORDS CHANGED TO "#NAME?"

I would appreciate advice on how to recover.

PS - I had not done a backup of the db before I did the above.

Hi Larry,

First, make a copy of the database, and try the following suggestions on the
copy. If all else fails, and if the data is important enough to you, you may
need to send the original to a data recovery expert, and the chances of them
being able to recover the data will be much greater if you leave the
original alone.

Now visit the following URL. It has links to Knowledge Base articles
describing how to recover corrupted databases, and should that fail it also
has links to some data recovery specialists.

I made a copy of the db and closed the db I had open (with #NAME? in every
field.

I opened the copy and it was OK. I.E. no "#NAME?" in any fields and it
reflected the last valid changes I had made so all is well.

Thanks for your input.

Glad it worked out for you!

I recommend using update queries rather than find and replace for bulk
changes from now on. They'll be more efficient and more reliable than find
and replace, especially with larger volumes of data.
