John

I need help ! ASAP. I've been trying to record the
presenters audio for each slide of a presentation. The audio
records but it comes out distorted with "crackly
distortion" in the background.I'm going into the "mic"
jacks with either a regular mic(mini in) or out of
soundboard. When I use the same setup recording into
Soundforge it comes out crystal clear.I've tried 3
different computers. As I'm doing this "on the fly" I don't
have time to use Soundforge and link audio to each slide
and edit it etc...Even when I just record using the Windows
sound recorder I get the same thing(crackly)Has anyone
tried to do this I need help. Thanks,John

Fellow MVP Austin Myers shared this with me recently. There is a Recording
setting buried in the controls:

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control.

Click Options > Properties and then click on Recording. Check all of the
boxes and click OK. Set the sliders all of the way to 100% and be sure that
Microphone is selected. Close that dialog and then go back to Volume
Control and adjust your microphone volume to the level you want. Try
recording again and see if the quality is better.

What's happening here is that if the above Recording sliders are less than
100%, say 50%, your volume setting will then only be a percentage of 50%.
Then the tendency is to ratchet up the input volume and that causes poor
quality.

Please try it an let us know if it helps in your case.
