I got hold of a C80 which has a missing cleaning pad [the pad on which
the heads rest].
Is there a simple DIY way of making one and out of which material ?

TIA

I suppose you could attempt fabricating one out of spongy packing material
or even a sponge. Also you would want to use a substance that would allow
the ink to not dry in the sponge but keep going to the waste tube and diaper
rather than being retained by the sponge and drying on it because it was too
dense, which would disable the reason for the sponge in the first place. I
would offer the suggestion of doing an Internet search of Epson parts and
see if you could simply pay the $5 (exorbitant price of course) to get a
replacement.
As I think about that docking sponge I recall it feels just like the the
bottom packing material when I get a new motherboard. It's just thinner.

The C80 model doesn't have a cleaning pad, per se. It has a rubber edged
gasket that dips in the center and has a slot going down it.

Although the C80 doesn't require a pad, the pads are made from a very
porous stiff open cell foam. The foam used by most MB manufacturers
that I've seen is a closed cell foam, and probably wouldn't work.

Now that you've mentioned it Art, I remember the squeegie on the C80, and
also the fact that the foam under the motherboard is clearly denser than the
foam Epson uses for their docking stations. I'm glad you brought those
points to light. Looking for Epson parts I found one authorized link
http://www.compassmicro.com , that may have the part needed, but my first
speculative price of $5 for the "squeegie" may have been low, if one notes
that they want $10 for the power cord alone. It may certainly be to the OP's
benefit to try to fabricate the part himself if such prices are the norm.
I picked up a new Epson C88 from Radio Shack the other day for $50. If I
were to build it from parts from this place my guess is that it would run me
$200.

I have a C80 here that I use to show people how those printers work when
doing lectures, and, although I got it used as a "gift" I ebleive it is
complete and functional. It does not have a typical "pad" in the
cleaning station. The cleaning station is just a rubber edge which then
slants down toward the center, which has a slit in it from top to
bottom. So, as far as I can tell, there isn't any pad for this model.

It should have a rubberized squeegee that wipes the heads as they go by
at the beginning of a document or during cleaning cycles.

Just refeed the ink tube into a bottle outside the printer.

I think this person is referring to the cleaning station, not the waste
ink pads. The C80 doesn't seem to have a pad in the cleaning station,
so no worry.
